Joshua Strief Obtains Defense Verdict in Jury Trial in Polk County, Iowa

After a four-day jury trial, partner Joshua R. Strief obtained a defense verdict in a jury trial in Polk County, Iowa, late last week. Plaintiff sought damages of approximately $500,000 or more at trial, claiming a car accident caused a permanent neck injury requiring multiple surgeries, pain injections, physical therapy, and other treatment. Plaintiff also claimed aggravation of injuries to the low back and left shoulder, along with a concussion. The last pre-trial demand from the Plaintiff was $235,000.

Although Mr. Strief’s client admitted liability, the jury found the accident did not cause Plaintiff’s injuries and awarded Plaintiff zero dollars. The defense verdict resulted in Plaintiff having to pay Defendant’s costs incurred for trial.
